Creating images using tan grams

For the past two days we had been given an activity. With this activity we had been given 7 shapes and with the seven shapes our challenge was to try and create the nine different pictures.

While we were doing this activity we also learnt how to make different shapes with only seven smaller shapes. With this challenge I had only accomplished six pictures and here they are...

Mysterious - I think it was mysterious because you never know are they gonna survive or die?

What was the book about?

This book is about two young boys named Toby and Sam. In my opinion I don’t think that this two boys aren't the best combination because, Toby is from England (city boy) and Sam is the opposite. Toby and Sam set off on a fishing trip and have been hit by a huge wave, and have just drifted away to a deserted island. While they are there they imagine all the things they could be doing if they were still back at home. Will they get back home? Will they survive? Will they die?

What did you like about the book?

The mystery, will they survive?

What was your favourite part of the book?

Favourite part was when they woke up at the island

Cross Country

Children flooding into the tennis court, some were very eager to get started but others just didn’t want to be at school. Today our school, St Pius X, had CROSS COUNTRY! Cross Country was for everyone, as in everyone has to participate in the race but if you had a good enough excuse then it’s your lucky day! We had some collaborators from St. Mary’s College coming to help with the races (direct us to where we had to go). Moments later they began the races... First race was the students aged 12. Majority of my friends were in that load of racers. After the 12 year olds took off they continued on by age going down, 11, 10, 9 etc. Smiling big and getting ready to be released... “Get your mark, Get set... “ *BANG*

Jogging down the hill with two of my friends Zheiyna and Latanoa, starting to go a bit faster. Later we had gotten in the front of our heap we weren’t exactly in the front but we were in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Three quarters of the first lap and exhausted Zheiyna had gotten so exhausted she sat down for about 20 seconds to catch her breath back. Starting our second round and I was huffing and puffing so much that I had gotten dehydrated. Completed the hill and passing some of the St. Mary girls with one of my other friends, Maxine. Maxine and I had slowed down and walked for a quarter of the race.

Jogging up the hill with Maxine, smiling big as we take our last few steps... ACCOMPLISHED! FINALLY we had accomplished the course for St Pius X Catholic Schools’ Cross Country. Our accomplishment had led us to dehydration, sweating, puffing and huffing but it had also led Maxine into 2nd place for her age group and for myself 3rd place. For my other friends Genevieve had come 3rd after Maxine, Catherine had come first in front of Maxine, Zheiyna had come 5th not far behind myself, and Julia had come 4th after Genevieve. Minutes later the rest of our syndicate had completed the course and now it was time for us to kick back, relax and watch the juniors race.

Again we had heard the words “GET YOUR MARK GET SET... GO!” *BANG* the juniors had sped off to begin their course.Moments after the 5 year olds had left they began starting the 6 year olds then 7 year olds etc. After we had finished all the races we all got straight back to class, tidied up and gotten ready for road patrols.     

        

Evaluation - Term 3 - Week 1

This week at St Pius I think I have had a pretty good week. Because this week I had learnt how to greet in greek, how hard it is to learn a new language and that if you work hard you can achieve many things in life. Although that’s not the only reason why it was a pretty good week. Happiness was spread across school, How do I know?, because all of the students were smiling plus the teachers (very rare). The downside of this week which was the sad part was that we were losing one of our most awesomeness teachers, Ms. Leaupepe.    

Book Review - The Unknown Zone

What was the book about?

This book is about a young girl named Hemi Ratana. Hemi Ratana is a fifteen year old girl who was traumatised by a humiliating incident. Climbing a giant Kauri on the Coromandel Peninsula in a do or die test of courage. In the back bending branches of the Kauri, Hemi finds a human skeleton. Around its neck is a key chain, what may the key be for? 160 years earlier, on the West Coast of the South Island was a group of Australian sealers. They are  taken captive by Ngai Tahu, marauders. In a desperate offer for survival one of the captives join up with another Maori group and they all travel to the Eastern Coromandel.  

What did you like about the book?

That no matter what this family did to this girl she never let that over take her.

What was your favourite part of the book?

The little girl falls into the river bank and nearly dies but then she gets saved.

How many stars would you give this book? Colour the stars.

I would say this book is a five star book.

Reading Activity - Level 3

On Frog Pond

This task is about adding words to a  text so it makes sense -  This will also show comprehension and understanding of text.

Read the text and put in the correct word.

It's early morning on frog pond. As the sun rises, light sparkles on the water (1).    All sorts of  pond animals are waking up. A (2) busy day is beginning.

    At the edge of  the (3) pond, a little green frog sits on a lilypad (4) in the water. He

is hidden here among  the (5) floating plants. He keeps very still and very quiet (6).

His big, bulging eyes are watching. He's watching the (7) dragonflies. He's watching for

slugs and worms. He's waiting (8) for flies. This little frog is hungry for food.(9).

    Someone else is hungry too. A dragonfly hums high (10) above the water. She is a fierce

hunter, looking (11) for insects. She hovers near a clump of  frogs (12). She can fly in

any direction, even backwards and (13) sideways. Like the frog, she has very

big eyes(14). Suddenly she spots a fly crawling up a tree (15). She swoops down

like an arrow and grabs the (16) fly with her powerful front legs. Gripping it

as(17), she munches away at it with her sharp body (18) parts.

    The little frog has seen all this happening (19). He turns very slightly. He's ready to pounce,

but (20) he keeps very still. He hopes that the fly (21) will take off towards him
